Working profile, eligibility limits & fee assumptions
Academic profile: three-year Bachelor in Home Science with an interior design minor, first class; no additional German study credits and no work/internship experience. German A1. IELTS 6.0, with willingness to retake it; courses requiring higher English scores stay in the comparison.
Application category: Indian citizen with an Indian first degree, using the ordinary non-EU fee category. Living in Germany with a student residence permit does not automatically change the foreign-degree deadline or remove tuition.
Still needed for a firm decision: exact awarding university, final percentage and grading scale, full transcript and module descriptions. A three-year degree is not automatically recognised as 180 ECTS; “first class” is not automatically German 2.5. A design minor is not automatically equivalent to a design bachelor.
Costs: tuition and semester contributions are separate. Amounts are the rates available in the checked sources, often 2026/27 or summer 2026; 2027 rates may change. Living expenses are excluded. Check extra service, workshop, assessment and application charges on each card.

Admission to the Master's programme requires proof of a study-related special qualification.
A study-related special qualification is ascertained when the submitted documents, in particular, the transcript of records, the letter of motivation and the exposé, show that the student has the ability to conduct independent scientific work and has the relevant methodological competencies that enable him/her to successfully complete the Master's programme. Please check the guide on our website for further information.
The assessment of the study-related special qualification is part of the application procedure. It is based on the submitted application documents (see application documents below).
Applicants must submit the following documents:
CV in English
Certified copies of the university entrance certificate
Certified copies of university certificates, university diplomas with transcript of records and certified translations in German or English, if applicable
Language certificates (e.g. TOEFL, IELTS, CAE, CPE, or certificate issued by university showing that the language of instruction during the BA studies was English)
Each applicant must submit a letter of motivation (750 to 1,000 words) in English containing information on professional qualifications and personal motivation for the course of study described from a professional-scientific perspective. The letter should also elaborate on professional goals.
Applicants must also submit an exposé of research ideas for their potential Master's thesis of 2,000 to 2,500 words in English, and this must meet scientific standards and include references to the current state of research. A confirmation of authorship needs to be signed and attached to the document.

An excellent or good first degree (from a European institution) in business studies or in a business-related discipline (210 ECTS* credits and a grade point average of 2.5 or better on German grading scale) or an equivalent international qualification
*Applicants holding a degree with only 180 ECTS have the opportunity to obtain the missing 30 ECTS within the Master's programme by attending additional courses in the Bachelor's programme in International Business – Intercultural Studies offered by Heilbronn University.
Applicants with a first degree in business studies or a business-related field who have been trained in course-related jobs or have successfully studied abroad may receive bonus points that will facilitate their admission to the Master's programme.
Applicants with a first degree awarded by a non-German institution must prove that their Bachelor's degree is equivalent to a German first degree before applying to Heilbronn University. In order to have their qualifications validated, applicants have to contact the Studienkolleg Konstanz or uni-assist . The Studienkolleg Konstanz or uni-assist will assess the foreign Bachelor's degree and decide if it meets the requirements for entering a Master's degree programme in Germany. Applicants should contact the Studienkolleg Konstanz or uni-assist directly to learn about the documents that need to be submitted for the validation.

In general, students can apply for this Master's programme if they hold a Bachelor's degree with a duration of at least three years (180 credits) or a comparable degree and the grade "good" or "very good" (minimum grade of 2.6 in the German grading system) in a closely related scientific field. For example:
Agrarwissenschaften (Agricultural Science)

Nachwachsende Rohstoffe und Bioressourcen (Crop Biomass and Bioresources)
Ökotrophologie (Nutritional Sciences and Home Economics)
Umwelt und globaler Wandel (Environment and Global Change)
Umweltmanagement (Environmental Management)
Wirtschaftswissenschaften (Economics)
Rechtswissenschaften (Law)
Sozial- und Politikwissenschaften (Political Science)
Applications with a Bachelor’s degree in another scientific field or with a Bachelor’s degree from abroad will be examined individually as to whether the study requirements are fulfilled. For the Sustainable Transition Master’s programme sufficient knowledge in the fields of economics, law and/or social sciences must be demonstrated, with at least 60 CP in one of these fields.
The application must also include a letter of motivation with 500 words (+/- 10%) outlining the candidate’s personal motivation and subject-specific knowledge. The criteria for the evaluation of the motivation letter are given in the examination regulations.
A specialist commission at JLU will then finally decide on the admission. Any information on the status of acceptance without having completed the application process is not possible.

Prepare once, apply carefully
Build your application file.
Map the transcript. Collect the bachelor’s certificate, all mark sheets, grading scale and module descriptions. Highlight nutrition, chemistry/biology, child development, education, social sciences, research methods, statistics and design credits.
Check the subject fit before paying. Send the relevant university your degree title, transcript and module descriptions. Ask it to confirm degree recognition, subject credits and any portfolio requirement. No application is guaranteed by this comparison.
Prepare APS and qualification checks. For an Indian degree, verify the university’s APS requirement and whether your existing APS can be reused. Where required, request a uni-assist application assessment or VPD early; a VPD alone is not a completed university application.
Choose an English target. IELTS 6.5 opens several useful options; 7.0 is common for health and social-science routes. Check the exact programme’s overall score, individual bands, Academic/General rules and certificate age before booking.
Plan the change of study. Before withdrawing from your current institute, check your residence-permit conditions and the study-change procedure with the responsible Ausländerbehörde. Admission and residence permission are separate decisions.
uni-assist currently charges €75 for the first chosen course and €30 for each additional course in the same semester. Applying indiscriminately can be expensive; prioritise programmes whose academic requirements your documents support.
A dated research guide.
Screened the 1,585 listings returned by the DAAD English-master’s search by subject/title, inspected 126 provider detail records, and added two direct-university routes. Also checked relevant mixed-language/art/food listings. Direct university sources override generic database labels where verified. This is a broad subject-based search, not a complete census of every German degree or a guarantee of eligibility. Home Science covers different subjects at different institutions, so the final shortlist depends on the transcript. The joint Fulda/Kassel Food Business programme is counted once.
Each card links to the official university programme, admissions information and/or the university-supplied DAAD record used. A university page takes precedence where it resolves a generic database label. Conflicting requirements and unavailable fee amounts remain marked. Future annual deadlines are planning dates until the university confirms the cycle; scholarship deadlines are separate.
The page does not submit applications. Shortlists, stages and notes are saved only in the current browser and can be exported. Clearing browser data removes local progress; use a JSON backup. The downloaded offline HTML contains the research, while your personal progress moves separately through backup and restore.
